He aha te tai...Learning the colour song

The Whare has been teaching us a new song that we can use back in our class to describe colours of everyday items. Room One was keen to step up to the challenge and once we had mastered it we asked if we could present it to the Whare on our next visit. Room One was so proud of our achievements and even though we had a little stage fright by the time we were on the second round it sounded great. This song has really helped embed the Maori names for colours into our tamariki, and now I often hear tamariki either singing the song or testing each other on their colours, often using the sentence 'He aha te tai?'

We have now asked the Whare if they could teach us the waiata about the great migration, as each time we have heard it sounds so beautiful and Magik is already trying to sing along.
