Reading: Place-Based Education: Catering for Curriculum, Culture and Community, by Wally Penetito

I have found it challenging to find articles relevant to Play-Based education that are relevant to New Zealand and our kindergarten setting. However this reading clarified in the passage below just what Place-Based Education was here in a New Zealand early childhood setting. In many ways I feel that our teaching team has been following this ethos for quite some time with our commitment to Enviroschools apart from the area of social history. Near the end of the year when we met with George he gave us some great ideas and areas to work on to help our tamariki become more connected and familiar with our history and local knowledge. At the time this was a really busy time of the year and this information hasnt really been acted on, I feel we as a team now need to revisit it and work out our next steps on our journey so we keep the momentum going enriching our tamariki knowledge.
